About Icon Element
The firm, the work, and the decisions we support.
Start here for a clear view of what Icon Element is, who we serve, and the institutional problem trust intelligence is designed to solve.
Back to categoriesWhat is Icon Element?
Icon Element is a Los Angeles trust intelligence and organizational strategy firm.
We help executives, public leaders, and institutional decision-makers understand how their organization and major initiatives are being interpreted across Los Angeles, how those interpretations affect trust and behavior, and what leadership should do with that intelligence.
Our work connects community understanding to participation, timelines, investment, relationships, institutional legitimacy, and long-term organizational performance.
Who does Icon Element work with?
Icon Element works with organizations whose success depends on earning and maintaining trust across Los Angeles.
That includes:
- Public agencies and civic institutions
- Mid-sized and enterprise organizations
- Healthcare systems
- Colleges and universities
- Foundations and philanthropic institutions
- Real estate developers
- Financial institutions
- Entertainment and media organizations
- Major events
- Sports teams, venues, and cultural institutions
We work with corporations, but our work is not limited to corporations. We serve any sufficiently established organization whose decisions materially affect communities, stakeholders, or public trust.
Does Icon Element only work with organizations headquartered in Los Angeles?
No.
Icon Element works with organizations based in Los Angeles as well as outside institutions entering, investing in, expanding within, or making decisions that affect the region.
Our intelligence is Los Angeles-specific because the stakeholder environment is Los Angeles-specific—not because the client must be headquartered here.
What problem does Icon Element solve?
Most organizations can report what they did:
- Events held
- Partnerships activated
- Dollars invested
- People reached
- Vendors engaged
- Programs completed
Far fewer can determine whether those activities changed institutional trust—or whether the organization’s broader footprint is producing credibility, support, friction, or resistance.
Icon Element closes that intelligence gap and helps leadership determine what it means for the decisions ahead.
What does Icon Element mean by “community”?
For Icon Element, community is not one generic public.
It includes the place-based, identity-based, professional, cultural, and stakeholder groups affected by an organization’s decisions. Depending on the engagement, that may include residents, patients, students, customers, employees, local businesses, nonprofit leaders, neighborhood groups, cultural communities, advocates, public officials, or other affected stakeholders.
The relevant community is defined by the decision being examined—not by a predetermined list.
02
How Icon Element Is Different
Independent L.A. trust intelligence—translated into organizational action.
Icon Element complements the teams already doing the work while giving leadership a wider, independent view of what that work means.
Back to categoriesIs Icon Element a community engagement firm?
No.
Community engagement teams often manage programs, partnerships, outreach, events, stakeholder relationships, and implementation.
Icon Element provides independent trust intelligence, measurement, executive interpretation, and organizational strategy.
Community engagement shows what happened. Trust intelligence helps leadership understand what it meant, how different stakeholders interpreted it, whether credibility changed, and what the organization should do next.
How does Icon Element fit alongside an organization’s existing teams?
Icon Element complements community engagement, external affairs, communications, public affairs, impact, legacy, patient experience, student affairs, strategy, research, partnership, and operational teams.
Internal teams bring institutional knowledge, established relationships, and implementation authority.
Icon Element adds:
- An independent external view
- On-the-ground intelligence
- Trust-focused analysis
- Candid collection and interpretation
- Visibility into stakeholders that existing feedback may not represent
- Analysis of issues extending beyond one department’s scope
- Executive interpretation and organizational strategy
We collaborate closely with internal teams and senior decision-makers.
Can Icon Element work independently?
Yes.
Icon Element can independently conduct research, review an initiative, assess stakeholder conditions, identify trust risks and opportunities, and present findings directly to leadership.
When implementation is required, we can work with an organization’s existing internal teams or coordinate with its established external partners.
The appropriate model depends on the decision, the organization’s existing capabilities, and the level of independence required.
How is Icon Element different from market research or polling?
Traditional market research and polling often capture what a defined group says, prefers, recognizes, or intends at a particular point in time.
Icon Element combines quantitative research with:
- On-the-ground intelligence
- Qualitative interviews and listening
- A Los Angeles Community Advisor Network
- Cultural and neighborhood context
- Analysis of institutional behavior and history
- Review of how an initiative is designed and communicated
- Interpretation of how trust may affect real behavior
We do not stop at identifying what people say. We examine why they believe it, which experiences shaped that belief, who may be absent from the existing evidence, how interpretations differ across communities, and what leadership should do with the findings.
Icon Element can work alongside an existing research firm. Our role is to add the local context, trust analysis, and organizational interpretation that conventional research may not provide.
What role do on-the-ground intelligence and the Community Advisor Network play?
Icon Element’s on-the-ground intelligence helps us understand how organizational decisions are being experienced outside formal reports, surveys, and institutional relationships.
Our Community Advisor Network contributes local, cultural, professional, and lived-experience perspectives that help us:
- Identify blind spots
- Stress-test institutional assumptions
- Recognize questions existing research may have missed
- Understand relevant histories and relationships
- Interpret how language and actions may land in different environments
- Determine where deeper research is necessary
Community advisors do not claim to speak for all of Los Angeles or for every member of a community. They strengthen the intelligence by adding informed local context and helping Icon Element ask better questions.
What is trust intelligence?
Trust intelligence is decision-ready evidence about:
- What stakeholders believe
- Why they believe it
- Which experiences and behaviors shaped those beliefs
- How those beliefs affect behavior
- Where credibility is strong or fragile
- What leadership should preserve, stop, redesign, investigate, or strengthen
It is not simply sentiment.
Trust intelligence connects interpretation to organizational action and institutional consequence.
What is the difference between activity, community benefit, and community trust?
They are related, but they are not interchangeable.
Shows that something happened: an event was held, a program was completed, or a partnership was activated.
Shows that people or groups received something of value.
Reflects whether those experiences changed how credible, aligned, dependable, or worthy of support the institution is considered.
An initiative can generate strong attendance and real benefit without materially changing trust in the organization behind it.
Does strong attendance mean an initiative built trust?
No.
Attendance shows that people participated or found value in an activity. It does not, by itself, prove that people trust, support, endorse, or feel committed to the institution behind it.
The same limitation applies to impressions, vendor participation, email signups, partnership counts, and program completion.
Activity is important. It is not the same as institutional trust.

The LA Readiness Index™
A Los Angeles-specific foundation for trust intelligence.
The Index identifies the broader trust conditions shaping behavior across the region and supports deeper organization- and initiative-specific analysis.
Back to categoriesWhat is the LA Readiness Index™?
The LA Readiness Index™ is Icon Element’s proprietary research and intelligence framework for understanding how trust, credibility, public sentiment, and community expectations shape behavior across Los Angeles.
It provides an intelligence foundation for:
- Sector analysis
- Initiative evaluation
- Organization-wide diagnostics
- Stakeholder research
- Trust-focused decision support
The Index identifies broader trust conditions across Los Angeles. It does not replace organization-specific research when leadership needs to understand a particular institution, initiative, stakeholder environment, or decision.
Why does Icon Element’s intelligence need to be specific to Los Angeles?
Los Angeles is not one audience or one market.
It is a network of cities, neighborhoods, cultural ecosystems, identity-based communities, industries, political environments, histories, and stakeholder relationships.
The same initiative can be welcomed in one part of the region and questioned in another.
Icon Element combines the LA Readiness Index™, on-the-ground intelligence, qualitative research, and its Community Advisor Network to interpret these conditions through a Los Angeles-specific lens.
National research can identify broad trends. It cannot replace local intelligence about the histories, relationships, experiences, and trust conditions surrounding a particular Los Angeles decision.

Working With Icon Element
How engagements begin, what leadership receives, and what independence requires.
Engagements are built around a live decision, a defined initiative, or the broader trust environment surrounding an institution.
Back to categoriesWhat types of decisions can Icon Element help leadership evaluate?
Icon Element can support leadership when an organization is preparing to:
- Launch a public-facing initiative
- Make a major investment
- Enter or expand within Los Angeles
- Develop a new partnership
- Introduce a program or service
- Make a public commitment
- Open or develop a facility
- Plan a major event
- Respond to changing stakeholder expectations
- Assess the organization’s broader trust environment
The common factor is that stakeholder interpretation and trust can materially affect the outcome.
What is the appropriate first engagement?
There are two primary starting points.
Customized Initiative Executive Brief
When leadership is evaluating one defined initiative, this is generally the appropriate starting point.
Discuss a customized initiative executive briefLA Readiness Diagnostic
When leadership needs to understand the broader trust environment surrounding the organization, this is generally the appropriate starting point.
Begin a diagnostic conversationA client may begin with initiative-level work and later move into organization-wide analysis.
What does a Customized Initiative Executive Brief examine?
The brief gives leadership clear answers to three primary questions:
- What do affected people actually want?
- How do they want to experience or receive it?
- From whom would affected stakeholders deem it credible?
Those conclusions are developed through a deeper examination of the initiative’s plans, evidence, stakeholder logic, public commitments, history, messaging, intended outcomes, and implementation approach.
We then identify missing intelligence, trust risks, potential unintended consequences, and trust-building opportunities.
Will Icon Element endorse our initiative?
Icon Element provides a responsible, evidence-based assessment—not a guaranteed prediction or automatic endorsement.
Depending on the quality and completeness of the available evidence, we may recommend that leadership:
- Move forward
- Move forward with defined cautions
- Modify the initiative
- Gather additional intelligence
- Pause a material decision until a critical question is answered
We do not reject credible research simply because Icon Element did not conduct it. We assess whether the evidence is relevant, sufficiently deep, and appropriate for the decision being made.
What does Icon Element deliver to leadership?
Deliverables depend on the engagement and may include:
- A board-ready executive brief or report
- A living Los Angeles trust profile that establishes the organization’s current trust position and evolves as later diagnostics, audits, and strategy work add new findings
- A trust gap map
- Stakeholder perception findings
- Initiative readiness analysis
- Trust risks and opportunities
- Behavioral, operational, or economic implications
- An executive readout
- A prioritized organizational strategy
- An accountability roadmap
Our work is designed to help leadership make a decision—not simply receive more information.
Does Icon Element provide implementation?
Icon Element provides research, initiative analysis, measurement design, strategic guidance, community integration, organizational strategy, executive advisory, and ongoing trust intelligence.
Icon Element is not positioned as an event-production, public-relations, advertising, social-media, canvassing, or outreach firm.
We can work with the internal or external teams responsible for those functions and help ensure their execution is informed by credible trust intelligence.
What happens if the findings are uncomfortable?
We report what the evidence supports.
Independent collection and candid interpretation are part of the value.
Our role is not to validate an internal assumption or produce a favorable narrative. It is to give leadership the clearest possible understanding of the decision environment, including findings that may be uncomfortable or inconsistent with internal expectations.
Is client information confidential?
Yes.
Client information is confidential. Specific data-access, stakeholder-protection, reporting, and permitted-use provisions are defined in each engagement agreement.
How are engagements scoped and priced?
Engagements are scoped according to:
- The decision or initiative involved
- Stakeholder complexity
- Research depth
- Organizational access
- Timeline
- Geographic reach
- Required deliverables
- The level of executive or leadership support involved
Before work begins, Icon Element defines the scope, outputs, responsibilities, timeline, and investment.
Long-term organizational strategy or advisory work may require an ongoing relationship.
How do we begin?
When a live initiative is in front of you, begin by sharing with us the decision, desired outcome, affected stakeholders, and timeline.
When the concern is organization-wide, begin with a conversation about the broader trust environment surrounding your institution.
